Good question!
It’s one I often ask myself!

I’m John Mitchell (aka Mitch). Born in Yorkshire and now living the best life in the NE of Scotland, where I’ve been since the start of lockdown in 2020. I’ve worked for myself since around 2010, when I started freelancing for London design agencies from my then base in Sussex.

My life changed massively in 2019 with a sliding doors moment where I met the awesome individual who introduced me to Utility Warehouse. That was a major life-changer, coupled with helping friends who had just bought Boleskine House (a famous house with a lot of history on the SE shore of Loch Ness), which led to me moving to where I’m now based in Scotland.

Since lockdown, I’ve predominantly worked from home – working UW and Stormbringer Design around each other gives me the time freedom to enjoy the different facets of my life. They enable me to be what I call a Freelance Adventurer. In my spare time, I like to travel, and I can also take my work with me (have laptop will travel!), whether in the UK or across the globe.

One of the reasons why I started with UW back in 2019, is that I love helping people. I’ve helped over 140 households (across the UK – from Shetland to Cornwall) save money on their essential services.

One of my favourite things is when I’ve saved someone a massive amount of money on their bills (sometimes in region of thousands of pounds a year), and they’re able to treat themselves to the things in life that matter to them. Likewise, helping others achieve the same happiness I’ve achieved over the years, making their lives easier, that’s where the magic happens.

Additionally, in these busy times; especially with the work I do, I like to look after myself and I’m grateful for the flexibility my businesses have given to me. I’m a runner – I run at least three marathons a year; I ride motorcycles (in particular, my 1990 Yamaha FJ1200) and I’m also a PADI Open Water qualified scuba diver. I’m massively interested in American Football and have been lucky for the last couple of years to work with the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL team that play one of their home games at Wembley every year. Last year, I was lucky enough to get tickets for the game thanks to my awesome design client.

Working with UW led to my being recruited by a teammate of mine to join Full Power Utilities as part of her team and that has added to the brilliant mix. I’ve helped quite a few business locally – and across the UK – to save money on their bills.

I’ve been a Tropic Skincare customer since moving to Scotland and earlier this year, I decided to become an Ambassador – spreading the word that blokes can have a proper skincare routine, too. My personal favourites are the Smoothing Cleanser and the Eucalyptus, Bergamot and Black Pepper Body Wash.
